Brass stirrup guard with integral langets, one engraved in script to the owner (see photo) and the date “1885-90". Grip wrapped in fish skin (worn) and twisted brass wire; integral pommel and back strap with riveted ears; large brass ferrule at the base stamped with a “5". Curved single-edged 32 ½" quill-backed blade, double-edged for the last 10"; stamped “EWALD CLEFF/SOLINGEN” on the ricasso and etched over its upper half with foliage, stands of arms, and “EISENHAUER”, with “Ewald Cleff Solingen” etched on the spine. The firm of Ewald Cleff (RZM) was active in Solingen from 1867 to 1966. Blade has been sharpened, obscuring some of the etching. Good quality sword, showing use and wear. Overall length 37 1/4".
