Oil on canvas signed: Chas. T. Phelan, “Sheep with Herder in a Country Landscape” Charles T. Phelan, American, Born in New York in 1840. Landscape painter and a pupil of Frederick Rondel (1826-1892) Best remembered as the teacher of Winslow Homer. His almost impressionistic style captured the spontaneity of the moment. He seems the have been at the cutting edge of the Modern Movement. Exhibited at the National Academy of Design (1880-1882). 30” x 24” framed. Signed Lower Left. Fine original condition with no signs of prior restoration. Original frame.
