New Zealand nephrite jade pendant (called greenstone by the maori people of NZ, to whom it is a revered stone) - it is carved in the form of a Maori toki, or adze axe. It symbolises building life and friendships. The top is bound, and the whole is on a plaited waxed twine cord. We have several of these, and as they are all hand carved, they vary a little in size and colour. The one shown is representative. It measures 4.5 cm by 2.5 cm (just over 1.3/4 inches by 1 inch). The cord is adjustable.
