Offered for sale is an intricately carved Cong dating to the Chinese Eastern Zhou / Spring & Autumn period. The nephrite jade used to carve this Cong is of the palest green color, and it has a very small area with a red (iron?) mineral streak which can be seen in the photo's. The Cong is drilled through from top to bottom, and it is suspended from a cord and held in place with two beads at the 'top' of the cord (one red and one orange) and two beads at the 'bottom' of the cord (one brown and one red) . The Cong is slightly rectangular in shape, measuring 2 5/8" High by 1" Wide by 7/8" Deep, and it weighs 58 grams (2.05 ounces). The Chinese characters on its base were written by the Hong Kong dealer from which the Cong was acquired, and they record its age as Eastern Zhou / Spring & Autumn Period (770 - 476 BC).
