1st of this limited edition. Quoting from volume one: "This, the first two-volume edition of Gone With The Wind, issued December 1, 1939, in appreciation of Margaret Mitchell's magnificent work in commemorating the life and times of the Old South, is limited to only 1,000 copies of which this copy is No.957." Publication was timed to coincide with the opening of the movie in Atlanta, Dec.1939. A truly handsome set of this scarce limited edition. Boards are bound in grey-green cloth with a gilt Confederate flag on the front board of each book, spines bound in a rich brown with heavy gilding along the edges, front and back. Gilt top edges on both books. Gilt stampings on the decorative endpapers. Only a trace of shelfwear to either book. Hinges are intact. Texts are snug and clean, unmarked. No slip case.
