Ancient Roman Bronze Lamp. Dark green patina, Bronze. This small bronze, spout lamp, cast in two pieces, is in the shape of a mans head. The detailed face shows, eyes, lids, eyebrows, a wide nose between round cheeks, a down-turned mouth, curly hair and a long beard. A handle comes out of the head and the spout comes out of the beard. It is described in the Merwin Galleries 1914 Sales Catalogue of Dr. C. A. Quincy Norton's Collection as Bronze Lamp, Roman. Grotesque face of a bearded man. Pre-Christian era. Found in the bed of the River Tiber. An unusually rare and fine old piece with great patina, pictured in plate 12 #343.
