Nat Levy (American 1896-1984). Signed (lower left) Nat Levy. “17 Mile Drive, Monterey” circa 1935-1940. Oil on canvas laid on mat board. 8 ¾” x 12”. Framed in a 1” silver metal leaf frame added later . Nat Levy was born in San Francisco in 1896. He served in the US Navy and as an aide to Milton Marks, Sr. in the California Assembly. Levy graduated from the California School of Fine Art. He worked primarily as a painter of seascapes, becoming best known for his scenes of the Mendocino coast. Levy exhibited at the Royal Gallery in London in 1977. The scene depicted appears to be 17 Mile Drive in Monterey, California, however, as Levy also painted the Mendocino Coast, the scene also could be from that area. This painting is in very good original condition but could use a light cleaning.
