An Interesting nautical Cane w/ a Two-Piece Whale Ivory Handle
An Interesting nautical Cane w/ a Two-Piece Whale Ivory Handle. The Handle is comprised of a straight up extension of the shaft meeting a flat disk which is a slice through a whale's tooth. A treatment rarely used or seen , even though the graining made visible by the this angled cut is fascinating to see. On the top of this handle are three etched stars. An integrated whalebone collar and whalebone eyelets, below which a white metal collar with rivets on a shaft of what appears to be dark cherry wood, an old ivory ferrule. Handle 1 3/4" x 1 3/4", Overall length 34". ca 19th c.
