Rich 8 9/16" x 11 1/6" albumen print on an album page. These No. African mothers and their children are seated around a circular table, with a large jar on the ground. There are covered dishes and plates on the circular table. The "ground" seems to be made of real grass, but the background is a painted backdrop. The album appears to be a typical one assembled for travelers, as the other side of the page has a [light] albumen photograph of a large sailing ship in a river, with an illegible signature and title such as on prints by Sebah or Zangaki or Bonfils [thought not by him].
I think this is a masterpiece of studio posing and composition.
