Etching of Thomas Hobson by an unknown artist. Hobson was a seventeenth-century carrier from Cambridge who was known as the perpetrator of "Hobson's choice," an expression that derived from his habit of offering customers "either this one or none." Image: 168 x 118 mm. Sheet: 306 x 253 mm. Pasted down. Printed script below image (octet). From scrapbook compiled by noted 19th c. British collector T. Purland in 1845.
