Mollica Italian Art Nouveau Majolica Floor Vase

Unavailable
This extraordinary antique majolica vase features three- dimensional poppy flowers and cherubs, and stands an impressive 60" (5 feet) or 152.4 cm. Excluding the applied decorations, the vase measures 18" (45.7 cm) in diameter at its widest point, and 26" (66 cm) across at its widest point including the applied putti. It measures 14" across at the base and 16" across at the top. Condition is extraordinary, with only a handful of small losses. The piece is a bit dusty and could use a gentle cleaning. We have not inspected the underside for hallmarks and there are no visible marks on the outside, including the inside of the rim and neck. This piece dates from circa 1890 and has been attributed to Mollica of Naples. This earthenware decorating firm was established in 1842 by Pasquale Mollica who had worked under King Ferdinand at the Capodimonte factory. Under the direction of his sons, Giovanni and Achille, the Mollica firm was creating extraordinary works of art in the 1880s and 1890s. Descendents continued to operate the company into the mid-twentieth century. This item resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City and may be seen in person by appointment. ( hantiques )
