Mohamed Ismail Egyptian Cubist Orientalist Portrait Oil Painting

Unavailable

This fabulous male portrait in the Cubist style by Mohamed Ismail (1936-1993) depicts a distinguished Middle Eastern gentleman and is executed in the Cubist style. This oil painting on artist board is signed by the artist and is believed to date from the 1950s or 1960s. The canvas board measures 14.75 by 19.75 inches and the period frame measures 18.38 by 23.15 by 1.5 inches. Canvas is relatively clean and the condition is very good. There are a couple small losses, but no noticeable craquelure or other damage which requires repair. The frame shows an old repair with overpainting on the lower left side. The color palette and cubist style of this fine painting will best complement a contemporary or twentieth century decor, especially Art Deco and Mid-century Modern styles. According to a leading dealer in Cairo, Dr. Ismail was born in 1936 in Zagazig. He graduated and obtained his Masters in painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo and a Ph.d. in the history of Fine Arts. He exhibited throughout the Middle East from 1958 to 1969, and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Far East until 1987. The most recent gallery exhibition of his work occurred at the Safar Khan gallery in Cairo in October and November 2008. Additional images forwarded upon request.
