This one is a pretty rare bird - when's the last time you saw one, or will see another? A turn of the century Mission style or Arts & Crafts settee in tiger or quarter-sawn oak with very wide flake. This one has been completely disassembled, re-glued and carefully refinished to preserve the original golden oak color. A lot of the Mission era furniture had an ammonia-fumed, almost blackened finish, but not this one, a rarity in itself. The pictures are a good representation of the actual color.
This settee is said to have began the early part of its life in the waiting room of an attorney's office in Syracuse, NY - so it has seen very light use over the past 100 years. Sometime in the 1970's the settee had a new frame, 4" foam and cushion custom made. This piece probably had coil springs when new. The buttoned upholstery is gold and dated in appearance. However it is very clean, absolutely no musty smells and is very sturdy. It is clean enough to be used as it is. We are reluctant to re-cover the cushion as everyone's decorating taste is different. On the upside, the only thing that would need replacement is the material - everything underneath is in superior condition. I think it would look great in black leather, which is what it probably had originally.
This settee is a very comfortable piece and makes an excellent presentation for itself. Pick-ups on this item are encouraged, buyer can arrange his own shipping, or we can assist in shipping arrangements. A very sturdy piece that is surprisingly light in weight. Shipping should be fairly reasonable.
