Mid-1800's French Caned Prayer Chair

Unavailable
This mid-nineteenth century French prayer chair was purchased in Paris, France. It came from the estate of a prominent French gentleman. The chair is made from a hardwood, probably oak or walnut. The wood is painted black; the condition of the paint shows less than normal wear for its age. The caned seat is in remarkably good condition. The design of this chair is the most striking and beautiful that I have seen, as is the design of the caned seat. It makes an awesome statement. This prayer chair was used for meditation and prayer. It was designed for kneeling on the seat and resting one's arms on the back. To assist in kneeling, the distance from the seat to the floor is only 15 inches. The name of the owner, Lafraise. Guison, is engraved on a brass nameplate on the top of the chairback. This chair is very sturdy and functional. Shipping / packaging / handling will be $25 - $55, depending upon zipcode and location of buyer.
