This book delivers as the title advertises! It is a wonderful primer on cooking. The 48 pages are packed with most of the basic instructions a novice would need to create great meals. It starts out with "A WISE COOK PRACTICES GOOD NUTRITION". The table of contents lists Introduction, Beginners-Begin Here, Menus With Recipes, Picture Recipes and Other Things You Should Know. This great book explains and defines most cooking terms! Lists essential utensils and pantry stock. It has a very good detailed recipe with photos for perfect pastry, roast beef, gravy, fried chicken, biscuits, pan fried fish, hash browns, cream sauce, stewed chicken,devils food cake, poached eggs and boiled frosting. It tells you how to go about breakfast and how to time your schedule. Also included are many varied recipes and a section on how to treat your vegetables, herbs. . . the cook's best friend, what wines to serve or cook with, and little hints for a happier cooking experience along with Know the fats, eggs and milk you buy. The title page notes that For additional copies send 25 cents in stamps to Modern Homemaker, McCall Dayton 1, Ohio" Copyright 1953 McCall Coroporation. The book is in good condition with no tears. The book measures 7 1/4" by about 8". There is a little mstaining from a small spill and a 3/4" circle where a layer of paper is off on the cover.
