This is an antique porcelain a match striker and match holder fairing or prize that was made in Germany 1880-1900 and is shaped like a kennel or dog house with a baby boy and dog like a collie. The match striker match holder fairing measures 3.25 inches high by 3.25 by 3.5 inches oval, is hand painted and has the incised number 3123 which in the Bristowe catalog is identified as an uncaptioned ornament. The match holder/striker was unmistakably made in Germany, in the Ebogen region which has now become the Czech Republic and by Springer and Oppenheimer. I brought it home from England recently. The fairing is in very good ++ condition with little paint loss. The boy and dog are in excellent condition with no cracks, chips or loss of ears or limbs which is rare, but the peak of the kennel was broken off long ago. An excellent example of victorian ornament as well as a great item of antique tobacciana.
