Some Spanish tables, often called ‘Catalan Style’ tables, are characterized by the slightly lyre shaped supports and iron stretchers. The iron stretcher is distinctly Iberian. In the earliest examples, the iron was easily removable so that the table could be taken apart quickly for transportation. In the unsettled middle ages, Spanish nobility was constantly moving from one stronghold to the next. This exceptionally long Catalan Style table from the 1700’s is made from European Elmwood. It has had only one restoration in its long history--- risers have been placed underneath the top to elevate the height to a modern day level for comfortable dining and seating. The size, condition, and beauty of this 18th century Spanish Table make it quite rare. Condition: All original except risers added to elevate top to today’s standards; nicks and rubs to wood. H=31 9/16, L=131 1/8 (10.9 feet), W=40 1/4
