Marble & Bronze Female Peacock Sculpture by Frilli & Gori

This fabulous sculpture attributed to Antonio Frilli (Italian, 19th Century) depicts a lovely, seated nude female sculpted from white marble, flanked by bronze peacocks on each side by Georges Gori (Italian, 19-20th Century). The entire work is mounted on a stained wooden plinth. The bronze is signed "G Gori" and the rear of the base is signed " A. FRILLI VIA FOSSI 4 FIRENZE ITALIA ". It measures 37 by 18 by 7 inches (94 by 45.7 by 17.8 cm) and weighs an estimated 60-90 lbs. According to Sotheby's, Antonio Frilli was most active in the last two decades of the nineteenth century. He created both original pieces and exceptional copies in marble and alabaster of important works from classical and renaissance period masters. He is said to have first exhibited at the Espozione Nazionale di Roma in 1883, and is known to exhibited in Glasgow in 1888 and in Paris in 1889. Georges Gori (Gory) was active in the late nineteenth century and participated in the Art Deco movement of the 1920s. Like Frilli, his works regularly appear at major auction. This item resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City, and may be seen in person by appointment. ( hantiques )
