Manhattan New York Cityscape Oil by Albert Munghard

Unavailable

This wonderful oil painting on wooden panel by Albert Munghard (1919-1998) depicts the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Broadway as seen looking north from the Flatiron building at 23rd Street. Seen in this famous intersection is the monument to General William Jenkins Worth (1794-1849), famous for his service in the Mexian-American war. (James Goodwin Batterson designed and erected the monument in 1857.) Depicted in this busy daytime scene, circa 1880s, are trolley cars and horse-drawn carriages and carts, and the building at 25th street has billboard advertisements for Cremo cigars, the Berlitz School of Languages and Cross pens. This panel was likely painted in the 1950s to 1970s. The panel measures 12" by 16" and the giltwood frame measures 18.5" by 22.5" by 2.5". This painting resides in our client's gallery on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City and may be seen in person by appointment. ( hantiques )
