This solid mahogany barrister or stacking bookcase was made by the Skandic Furniture Co. of Rockford, Illinois. The bookcase has 7 separate pieces which consists of a cap, 5 bookcase units and a base. These bookcases were originally designed to hold lawyers’ or barristers’ legal and reference books. One stack will accommodate books up to 8” tall, one will hold books 9” tall and 3 stacks will hold books up to 10” tall. Each has a glass front which lifts up and slides back to allow access. All have their original brass pulls. The bookcase retains its original finish which is in excellent condition. There are two other matching bookcases which are available and would make a great wall unit if placed side by side.
