AN EARLY OAK LONGCASE CLOCK Circa. 1720
An interesting early oak longcase clock. A slim case with fretwork to the hood. Gilded hood column capitals and side glass windows. A lenticle to the trunk door. A brass dial with silvered chapter ring and seconds dial. Ringed winding holes and engraving around the date aperture. A high quality 5-pillar mechanism with striking countwheel. Brass cased weights.
The clock mechanism being 5-pillar and having brass cased weights is a sign of high quality workmanship though this clock is unsigned. Some clockmakers who were not part of the local clockmakers guilds did not sign them.
