A Somerset longcase clock. A pale mahogany case with marquetry inlays. An arched hood pediment surmounted by cresting and brass finials. Barley twist hood columns. A circular painted dial with decorative brass hands of Prince of Wales design. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the hours on a bell. James Hancock of Yeovil was working at Middle Street from 1822-1853, as listed in AJ Moores' 'The Clockmakers of Somerset' book. A clock by the maker is illustrated in the book.
