This is a Late 1800s Calumet Baking Powder Original Founders large size Book with extra large Labels and History and Lithographs. Many of the original large page size labels and or lithographs are free standing and can be unattached from the book. They are not printed on the page but attached to it. The book measures 9"x 12" and has its original cover which is not connected to the book anymore. The Calumet Baking Powder Company has followed the hobby of breeding trotting horses at the Calumet Farms in Lexington, Kentucky. Belwin, the worlds greatest Sire at his age. Peter the Brewer, one of the greatest race horses of all time. W.M. Wright was the chairman board of directors. The president of the company was Warren Wright. Our story opens in a tiny room in a loft of a building in 1889. Originally started with 400 square feet of floor space. The Calumet Baking Powder Company had plants in East St Louis IL, Material Plant in Joliet IL, the home of the company was Chicago, IL. This book has all of the sales managers, advertising managers, secretary and comptroller, manager of the order department, Vice President in charge of production, purchasing agent, factory superintendent, superintendent of the can department. Every name has a work biography included. The Calumet Company was a great company to work for. This company had a standing offer of $10,000 to any scientist who can show how to improve the Calumet Baking Powder. The salesmen had a $50 standing offer for the one sending in a usable suggestion. There are pages in the book with pictures of cookbooks and scientific efficient kitchens. Carney"s Quarter Ton Cake, it tipped the scales at 502 pounds and measured 6 foot high. The book also has a Sales Sense Cartoon character touting the sales triangle of Manufacturer, Jobber and Retailer. It has a page of best Sales Sense cartoons. There is the radio station listed WQJ Chicago, advertising the company's product. The radio station broadcasted on 448 meter wavelength.Reaching out to foreign lands. There are two postcards and a news item proclaiming reception of WQJ programs in distant countries. WQJ was heard in Paris, France, Honolulu, Hawaii, Alaska, Haitti, Central America and was one of the strongest far reaching radio stations in the Central West. The total circulation of various mediums carrying Calumet advertising was over 39 million in 1922. Some of the outdoor posters are listed on page 46. A striking calendar subject in signed lithograph on page 47. Page 48 and 49 has more advertising or marketing handouts. Page 51 has a full page ad with a chicken. There is an office memo on page 54. Page 58 and 59 are pictures of division heads. Page 61,62 and 63 are cartoon caricatures of salesmen. Page 66 are 25 new roadsters bringing the total fleet above 200. Page is a cute caricature of a little boy. There is a 1924 list of prized winners, one salesman got a Ford Coupe another a Ford Roadster. Page 83 is a hospital room installed in the factory. Page 84/85 are pictures of the basketball team, bowling and golfing team. Page 86 is a picture of a Halloween party. Page 86 is a full page ad of Calumet Baking Powder. The adorable googly eyes kids were a great part of the advertisements. This Company was not just about work they treated their employees with respect and had prizes, bonuses, incentive programs and sport teams.
