Large American Encaustic Tile Panel - Bacchante

Unavailable

Here is a fabulous AETCO large tile panel carved in high relief which depicts a bacchante with roses in her hair and dressed in flowing robes holding a tambourine and thyrsus while standing upon a wave-decorated plinth celebrating the rites of Dionysius. The tile is 18" x 6" and finished in an attractive sky blue and pale brown spatter glaze that is difficult to photograph. It is in excellent condition with some glaze rubbing at the top edge of the plinth below the figure's right heel; slight corner rubs at each corner. The back shows where the tile was carved away from its original installation at the bottom; this carved area is only on the back--the bottom edge on the front side is in good shape. I am quite sure that this image was carved by Herman Mueller, but cannot find literature to confirm that. Please write with any questions you may have.
