A rare pair of late 18th Century wrought iron andirons with brass finials and brass shields at the bottom of the shafts. With excellent proportions, these are the best of their type. An identical pair is pictured in "The Brass Book", pg. 44, Schiffer Publishers, and in "Antique Iron", pg. 128, fig. "D", Schiffer Publishers, American, circa 1780, 22"H. X 8-1/4" W. X 16-3/4" D.
