This magnificent hand-hammered brass vase by Josef Hoffmann (1870-1956) for the Wiener Werkstatte measures 11.5 in (29.2 cm) by 6.25 in (15.9 cm).  According to Sotheby's, this and similar designs for vases were produced from 1925 to 1931.  The most recent auction sale of a work from the series occurred in Paris on December 20, 2017, in their sale entitled "UNE DYNASTIE AMÉRICAINE EN EUROPE - COLLECTIONS ELEANOR POST CLOSE & ANTAL POST DE BEKESSY" where lot 562, a silvered brass bowl with handles, was offered with an estimate of 8,000-10,000 euros and closed at 21,250 euros.
