John Begg American Mid-Century Modern Primitive Bronze Sculpture

This abstract green patinated bronze sculpture by John Begg (American, 1903-1974) was purchased from his studio and is believed to date from the 1950s. Including its wooden plinth, it measures 15.5 by 4 by 4 in (39.4 by 10.2 by 10.2 cm).  Begg lived and worked in the New York area and died in Hastings-on-Hudson.  His works are held in a number of museums across the U.S., including the Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover MA, the New York Public Library, and the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers.  He is listed in Davenport's Art Reference, Who Was Who in American Art, and the Dictionary of American Sculptors.
