9" x 12 ½" sepia gelatin print, printed in 2003 for an exhibition in Florence Italy. Lech, born in Poland, now lives in Jersey City. Soon after I got to know him, I discovered that another friend, John Wood, poet, author of several books on daguerreotypes and other photography subjects, one of the editiors of "21. The Journal of Contemporary Photography," had written a beautiful long article on Lech's photographs. It begins "I do not think anyone could look at a photograph by Lech and not immediately be struck by its ghostly beauty, its brilliant artistry and craftsmanship, and finally its genius." The entire article can be found here: http://www.foreigner.de/gallery/gal_lech_work.html Lech makes each print in his studio, using the highest quality paper. Because of his unique process of sepia toning, each print from a negative is a "one of a kind print." It is amazing to find among us someone with a contemporary sensibility who is working in the high tradition of great European photographic craftsmanship.
