The dog figure measures 3/8" smaller than the silver backing. It is riveted in place - a system used by the manufacturers of higher end costume jewelry produced in the 1950's-1960's.

The figure is made of molded lucite which was over-painted with red, black and sparkle paint. The only damage I see is a bit of paint missing on the tail.

While the dog figure is a caricature, it looks like a standard Schnauzer to me - you decide! ..and is that a sailor hat on his head?!!
