This is a extra nice, clean, 1/4" wide x 13.25" long heavy duty socket firmer chisel marked "THE JAMES SWAN CO. U.S.A. BEST TOOL STEEL" on the steel, and also has the SWAN shaped logo on it. This is a top quality chisel, one of the nicest we have seen in this type, no rust, no pitting, some minor dings on the exterior of the socket noted. The steel alone is 8.7" long. This is a extra thick gouge chisel, with the corners at the bottom rather square off, a little different than most Swan gouges I have seen in the past. The hardwood handle (not sure what the wood is, but it's really nice looking, solid, with most of the original finish intact, very nice, no cracks, fits perfectly, the leather cap has a few small chip out of it, but still mostly intact. Plenty of use left in this nice clean, sharp, ready to use, quality made full sweep gouge chisel! The James Swan Company is well known for quality edge tools from 1877 until 1951.
