Jade Song Dynasty Tableau

Offered for sale is an interesting carved Song Dynasty nephrite jade tableau depicting a reclining man who is leaning against a rock and drinking from a water/wine gourd. This man is being watched by a chicken or rooster which is perched by his feet. His right leg is raised at the knee, supporting his right hand which in turn is supporting the water or wine gourd. His left leg is stretched out at an odd angle, with the rooster resting upon it, and his left hand is flat on the ground, with his arm held straight and supporting his head so that he can drink comfortably. His back and hat are resting against a (palm?) leaf. The back of the rock is carved as well, with veins running both horizontally and vertically across its surface. The underside of this carving is flat (final picture). The nephrite jade used for this carving varies in color from a pale green to brown, with touches of a black mineral deposit scattered in a vertical streak which goes from the figure's stomach up through the wine gourd and continuing onto the rock behind his head. There are traces of this darker mineral on the back of the carving as well. The detail of carving on this figure is exceptional. He looks like he is greatly enjoying whatever beverage is stored in his gourd. This figure dates to the Song Dynasty (960 - 1280 AD). It measures 2" High at its highest, by 3 1/2" Wide and 1 1/4" Deep. It weighs 139.5 grams (.3075 lbs).
