Very nice Irenee Rochard bronze of and Elephant with upraised trunk (some call this the happy Elephant) that is circa 1930 and in excellent condition. Only a couple of minor spots of rub separate this from perfection. Crisp and strongly rendered Irenee Rochard is an extremely well listed artist with sales to $6000 and beyond. Sized at a pleasing 12" long and 10" tall. Great piece deserving a place in any home or collection.

Born on January 16th 1906 in Villefranche-sur-Saône (Rhône) Died on March 29th 1984, in Paris

A student in the Beaux-Arts and Arts-Deco Schools from 1924 to 1928 A member of the French Artists Society from 1938 onwards He won numerous Prizes and Distinctions,among which:

A Gold Medal at the Colonial Exhibition, in 1931 A Bronze Medal from the French Artists Society, in 1941 A Silver Medal from the French Artists Society, in1948 A Gold Medal from the French Artists Society, in 1952

From 1965, he was among the panel of judges of the French Artists Society and the Prize-winner of the Institut de France

Medal of Honour from the French Artists Society, in 1980 Edouard Marcel SANDOZ Animal Sculpture Prize-winner in 1981 And diverse other Prizes as well Taylor Prize, in 1960 Beaux Arts Academy Prize, in 1961 Arthur Leduc Prize, in 1964 Creation of the last Paris War Memorial, in 1964 Institut de France Prize, in 1970 Beaux-Arts Institute Prize, in 1973 Thérèse Rivière Prize, in 1976

Paris City Council bought several of his works in 193, 1950, 1954 1965, 1968, etc...and so did New-York City Council in 1938
