About The Poster: The French Line's S.S. Normandie sailed from 1935 to 1942, when it caught on fire during World War II. The lavish Art Deco liner sailed between Le Havre and New York. The ship, which is still considered the most powerful steam turbo-electric propelled passenger ship ever built, has a lasting legacy today. This poster was taken from a brochure of the Normandie created in the year of its initial voyage. It was printed in 1935 was designed by Herbert B. Libiszewski (1897-1985) who was a Swiss-born fashion illustrator, advertizing consultant, illustrator, painter and graphic designer, the latter activity of which he executed uner the pseudonym "Libis". Over the span of his career, Libiszewski worked for such prestigious clients as vogue and Marie-Claire. After 1941, he dedicated his talents to poster design.
