HUGE Grand Tour BRooch Belleair & history
This huge deco 4 ½ prong set rhinestone Belleair beach brooch has quite a history behind it. When we got it, the previous owner said that it was from 20-30s and was worn during the grand tour period where people from all countries would travel to large and fabulous destinations. In 1920, the Belleview Biltmore Hotel (Built by railroad magnate Henry Plant) was purchased from the Plant Investment Company owner of the Biltmore chain of hotels. Built in the town of Belleair, this huge 1896 Victorian resort looks like a Great Gatsby movie set. It is one of the world's largest wooden structures and is on the National Register of Historic Places. For more than a century, the Belleview Biltmore Resort had quite an impressive guest list. British royalty, heads of state, movie stars , presidents, corporate tycoons, international dignitaries, socialites , Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Babe Ruth and even Lady Margaret Thatcher. . Railroad presidents pull up on the Belleview Biltmore's siding in their private cars. The Studebakers, the DuPonts, the Pew family of Sun Oil, the Vanderbilts "America's aristocracy" check in. In the span of a few short years during the latter decade of the 19th Century, Henry M. Flagler and Henry B. Plant would transform the coasts of Florida into a prime "grand tour" destination for societys rich and famous. .Can you imagine the possibilities of the lineage of this fabulous deco brooch!????This is heavy pot or gunmetal and has all its original glass stones too!
