Howard Hodgkin was born on the 6th August 1932 in London, he studied art at both Camberwell art school and Bath Academy of Art. Hodgkin had his first one man show in 1962 at Arthur Tooth and sons, London and held further one man shows sporadically over a period of several years. The momentum of Hodgkin's work carried him into the 1970's with such excitement and anticipation that he had sequential one man shows at some of the most respected art institutions in Britain and around the World. The eighties brought further success for Hodgkin's as his appeal was reaching wider audiences in different countries including the USA, Brazil, Sweden, Australia and Italy to name but a few. Hodgkin couldn't escape the attention of the London Weekend Television program The South Bank Show in 1981, he also won the much coveted Turner Prize in 1985 on home soil in London. The nineties brought further plaudits for the artist and his amazing work, in 1992 he was awarded a Knighthood. His one man shows continued through the nineties and into the new millennium where one thing is for certain, that Howard Hodgkin will remain a source of brilliance and excitement in this new era of art.
