Many seeing this horned image, think that Mokanna to be some type of Viking with an unusual set of Horns (in reality, Viking helmets had no horns). BUT these are not really horns at all, but a Veil being parted in the middle to reveal the face of the Great Mystic Prophet. It is nonetheless ironic, that this Veil so much resembles Horns that even in some Masonic regalia catalogues, they are described as such. The mysterious Prophet had originally been named Hakim and presented himself as an incarnation of Deity. Mokanna was also a Military Officer who led a particularly violent revolt in Khorasan (land of the Sun). He then hid out for three years, successfully dodging the vengence of the Royal Caliph and his armies. In a shocking climax during the year 779, Mokanna and his followers all commited suicide using poison after burning down the fortress.
