One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** Hodie. By Katharine and Bernard Garbutt. New York: Aladdin Books, 1949. (44p.), color illustrated paper over boards. Illustrated throughout (by the author?). Poodle juvenile fiction. A Standard Poodle becomes a ¬ìherding dog¬î. Boards have edge wear, light rubbing, and light soiling. Red cloth spine has wear at head and tail. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. Front endpapers and all flyleaves have pencil, pen and crayon scribbles. Interior pages have some light smudges, but otherwise clean. Binding sound. Good condition.
