Beautiful Ink well and letter holder from a desk set made by Heintz Art Metal (Buffalo, N.Y.). Bronze with sterling silver appliqué of a gently waving pine bough with needles and cones. Customized with initials FHV. The Art Nouveau letters in a circle look like a Japanese character.
Inside the inkwell is a glass reservoir with an attached metal lid. There is a flip-up round cover on top.
The influence of the Roycroft workshops in nearby East Aurora, New York, is clearly evident in the simple, elegant design and fine finish of this piece.
Heintz Art Metal hallmark on bottom. Sterling on Bronze, Pat date Aug 27, 1912 as seen in photo.
Rack 6 x 2-1/4 x 4-1/4 inches.
Inkwell 2-3/8 x 2-3/8 x 2-1/16 inch tall.
Very good cosmetic condition. No dents, dings or dimples. The inside, round cover over the ink reservoir needs to be re-welded and the letter rack is slightly bent from use. Both items have the original patina.
