Rare butter basket by Haviland & Company, Limoges, France. It has rusty red flowers touched with green on white porcelain with gold accents. The holes on the sides allowed for cold water to be placed inside and then the butter was set on the top. This way the butter stayed cold and didn't melt down. The butter was hand churned and when it got warm it dripped milk. The basket measures 7.5" x 5.5" and 2" high, plus handle. No chips or cracks or worn gold. Looks just like new but it is 140 years old.
