Beautifully engraved SPECIMEN certificate from the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company. This historic document was printed by the Security-Columbian Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of the company logo.
Certificate Vignette John Wesley Hanes organized a hosiery company called Shamrock Mills. Soon after in 1902, his brother Pleasant and his sons, P. Huber and Will, established P.H. Hanes Knitting Company to make men's heavyweight underwear. The two companies merged to become Hanes Corporation in 1965. In 1979, they became part of Consolidated Foods Corporation, which was renamed Sara Lee Corporation in 1985.
