This 1878 quilt is done in the pattern called Hands All Around. It is muslin with a deep yellow fabric for the pattern. It has a cotton batting and a muslin backing with the same yellow for the binding that has been machine attached. It is hand quilted with 12 stitches per inch. It measures 68 x 72". It is in excellent condition with no holes or tears but a few very minor age spots. It was made by Mrs. Phillip (Emma) Gessert Sr. of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
