This lovely niello victorian hair receiver or hair receptacle dresser jar dates to 1890-1910 and was a part of every victorian woman's vanity set. The hair receiver is of pressed glass with a damascened or niello silver plate lid. The dresser jar for holding hair, or hair receiver was made by the Queen City Silver Company, Cinncinati, Ohio USA. The hair receiver measures 2.5 inches high by 5 inches in diameter. It is in very good +++ condition with some wear to the niello finish. A real beauty. Hair was collected from hair brushes etc and saved by being pushed through the hole in the lid, and then woven, curled, teased etc. into hair pieces, commemorative and memorial jewelry, arrangements and wreaths. Hair art was considered a genteel and suitable activity for ladies of fashion to do in the victorian era.
