Gustave Vanaise is a Belgian painter born in Ghent, 24 October 1854 and died in Saint-Gilles 20 July, 1902. Gustave Vanaise painted historical and religious subjects, intimate scenes and is also a portrait painter. He studied at the Academy in Ghent Canneel, then in Brussels. He traveled to Italy and Spain. In 1883 he was a founding member of the Brussels group of avant-garde The Twenty. He resigned in 1886.
