Pencil on paper drawing entitled Prophet by Benjamin West. Benjamin West (1738-1820) was an American Neoclassical painter of historical scenes who was born in Pennsylvania and died in London after an illustrious career that included Royal commissions and presiding the Royal Academy. This drawing is most likely a study of a figure meant to be included in one of his paintings. Gallery label on the reverse of the frame reads as follows: Benjamin West, P.R.A. English School, 1738-1820 Prophet, pencil From the collection of Mrs. Clare Francis, a direct descendant of Benjamin West. The Drawing Gallery. Charles Frank & Company. Chicago. In very good used condition as shown. Unsigned and unexamined outside of frame. Photographed through glass which explain reflections. Shipped fully insured with tracking number.
