Many people don't know that there were two worlds fairs in the United States in 1939: the New York World's Fair on the Atlantic side and the Golden Gate Exposition on the Pacific. This expo celebrated the twin engineering feats of the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges as well as peace and unity among the nations of the Pacific Rim. It was held on Treasure Island, an artificial island in San Francisco Bay midway between Oakland and San Francisco.
This plate is an "official souvenir" of the great event. It bears the fair logo in the center. On the rim are a suspension bridge and examples of architecture from participating nations.
Official Souvenir stamp on underside as shown in photo.
