Gmundner Keramix Austria Biedermeier Baroque Dinner Plate. The line of hand painted ceramic is made by Gmundner Keramik in the town of Gmunden on the shores of the Traunsee, one of the most picturesque sites in the alpine lake country of Austria. The culture of the region has deep, Celtic roots which may account for the artistic inclination prevalent among its native population. For more than three hundred years, artisans of Gmunden have fashioned tableware and other household objects from the alluvial clay deposits found there, and have decorated them in colors and patterns that have become classics of the genre. During the last century, the individual artisans of Gmunden turned to more organized forms of manufacturing to produce the regions distinctive ceramic ware and have made them available worldwide. This pattern is the Biedermeier is a maroon and yellow floral pattern that is only available through special order, this baroque dinner plate retails for $115 and is 11 1/4" across, marked on the back with the Gmundner Keramix mark along with Made in Austria.
