The stacking sectional barrister bookcase was quite a creative invention for its day and its modular design lends itself to today's lifestyle; ideal for showcasing favorite books, objects of art, prize collectables, photos or even trophies. The unique system was introduced by Otto H. L. Wernicke of Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1890, and by 1899, the Globe Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, purchased the Wernicke Company, creating the Globe-Wernicke name. Unhappy with the arrangement however, in 1905, Wernicke moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and created a new partnership with Fred Macey.

This Barrister Sectional 6 Stack Bookcase is constructed out of solid cherry and has the original brass knobs, original glass, and the original door equalizers with six stacked sectionals so there is plenty of display area. And what is great about the sectional bookcase is that its receding original glass-front doors provide a view of the contents while keeping the interior dust-free. Each door lifts out and rolls smoothly back into the cabinet allowing easy access while the door is stowed safely out of the way. The Globe Wernicke Company Solid Cherry Barrister Sectional 6 Stack Bookcase has the original Globe Wernicke labels that include the catalog and finish numbers, measures, 89.00 inches H X 33.75 inches W X 11.50 inches D, and is in the original finish with appropriate wear for its age.

In their 1922 catalogue Globe-Wernicke described the barrister sectional stacked design as “Beautiful in design, elegant in finish, perfect in proportions, the clean simple lines of the UNIVERSAL STYLE SECTIONS will appeal to even the most esthetic sense. Hers is an example of pure decoration, by just the repetition of regular sections. Everything is symmetrical, the ideal of simplicity being carried out to perfection. Nothing florid or over-decorated is seen in this or any of the Globe-Wernicke styles. They cling tenaciously to the idea of good taste and consequently fit harmoniously in every decorative scheme”.
