GIUSEPPE CARELLI .GULFO DI NAPOLI. OIL ON WOOD; A fantastic early 20th century oil on wood panel painting, signed Giuseppe Carelli lower center and titled 'GULFO DI NAPOLI' on verso, impressionist depiction of boats and ships in the Gulf of Napoli at the foot of the erupting mount Vesuvius, with opulent use of color and luminescence and impastio bush stroke complemented with a rich perspective dynamic of the rocky shore line in the foreground, fishing boats in the center with Vesuvius way in the distant background giving great scale and depth. Housed in its original stretcher and "House of Heydenryk" parcel gilt frame complement this a wonderful and exciting work which would make an impressive addition to any fine household or collection.
