Late 18th-early 19th century gilt caned Louis XVI French footstool hand made. Unusual shape to the scrolled top outline. Carving surrounds the 3 inch apron as well as the blocks above the reeded legs. The original gilt cane is tight with no breaks and minor scuffing to the gilt. Due to the age,the original gilding shows minor wear to gilt as expected yet still a very handsome piece. The wood band surrounding the cane on one side was broken as seen in photo and repaired many years prior, the tiny nails visible. Extremely strong and functional. Could be padded very thickly and crowned high with fabric covering and nail head trim as a footstool or flat for a small coffee table or a loose thick cushion could be used atop as well as the existing cane. Measures 28.25L X 22.75D X 14.25H. Can be shipped via Federal Express with zip code.
