This fabulous porcelain figurine of a tropical bird was designed by Fritz Heidenreich (1895-1966) and dates from the 1950s to 1960s.  Measures 20 by 12 by 10 in (50.8 by 30.5 by 25.4 cm).  Rosenthal mark indicates the piece may date to as early as 1953, according to Kovels dictionary of marks.  Condition is very good.  There is a small flake chip loss on the top of one wing, but no other visible losses, cracks or restorations.  Heidenreich sculpted for Rosenthal from 1919 to 1960, and became head of the art department at Selb in 1946.  He won the Grand Prix auf der Weltausstellung Paris in 1937.
